Subbunker
Sound first.
Then everything sound taught us.
We make records, and we build the tools we wish we'd had while making them.
Subbunker is an independent research and production studio. The records came first and still do. But most of that work is about what a recording needs once it exists, how it gets shaped, what it gets held against, what ends up built on top of it and none of that turned out to be specific to audio. So the systems we build now do the same job for pictures, video and text.
Sound
Records written, produced, mixed, mastered and finished here. It's the oldest thing the studio does, and still the thing everything else gets measured against.
Systems
The work stopped fitting in one medium, so the tools stopped assuming one. We’re building our own tools that can look through everything we’ve made and help make the next thing. They get used on our own productions first. If they hold up there, other people get to use them.
Before any of this, there were records.
The practice began with records in 2016.
productions, mixes and originals for dance and electronic music, released through labels including STMPD RCRDS, Spinnin’, Confession and Hexagon.
Some came out under the studio's own projects. Most were built for other artists, which is simply how production works. What they share is the room they were made in and the ear that finished them and that is the part which carried into everything after.

AI Assisted Music Production: Techno
A full course on making source material with Suno, then building a finished techno record out of it. Low end, drums, melody, mix, master. Not AI instead of a producer. A producer showing what the tools are actually good for.
Tools built for our own work first.
Everything below exists because a production needed it. Status is marked honestly, a circle is in design, a half-circle is running internally, a filled circle is something you can use.
SUB-INGEST
One door for all. Audio, video, stills and notes read into the same shape, so a reference can be found, held against another and built on without it mattering which of them it came from.
Generative image & motion
Image and video models put through the same chain every time, prompt, grade, composite. So what comes out looks like the studio and not like the model.
Research agent
An assistant that reads, finds and cites across the studio's own archive. Built because the archive stopped fitting in one head.
Studio archive
Sessions, stems, notes and references in one place, so old work can be found by sound, name or date instead of by remembering which folder it went in.
Subbunker is led by Jorn Bouwmeester, a producer and software engineer
working across music, generative media and computational systems.
Commissions, collaborations and label work.
Production, generative work, or something that doesn't have a name yet. Write with what you're trying to make and when it has to exist.
Generative media systems
Sonic identity, image and motion pipelines, research agents.
